Jordan's Principle Summer Program

Province: Manitoba

Community: Churchill

Through True North Aid’s Community Initiatives Program (CIP), the Jordan’s Principle Summer Program provided 16 children with six weeks of free summer programming, creating opportunities to explore, learn new things, stay active and enjoy memorable experiences close to home.

The program offered a wide variety of activities designed to keep children engaged and excited throughout the summer.

Participants enjoyed a whale-watching tour, a dog sled cart ride, a boat trip to Prince of Wales Fort and a visit to the Polar Bear Holding Facility.

They also took part in swimming, bowling, baking, arts and crafts, and bannock making, alongside opportunities to learn Cree words and explore new interests.

Of course, summer camp was about more than activities.

Each day gave children something to look forward to, opportunities to spend time together and the chance to make memories with their peers.

From outdoor adventures to creative activities and shared experiences, the program helped make summer an exciting time for the children who attended.

The six-week program wrapped up with a celebration featuring hot dogs, pizza, cupcakes and juice… a fun way to bring everyone together and mark the end of a successful summer!

The program organizers shared that one of its greatest successes was seeing the children enjoy attending each day and eagerly anticipate the activities planned for them.

True North Aid is proud to support community-led initiatives that respond to local priorities and create meaningful opportunities for children and youth.
