The Northern Reads program supports literacy by providing new, Indigenous-authored books to communities across northern Canada, in partnership with Strong Nations Publishing in Nanaimo, BC. Each community receives curated books in their native language. For many children in these communities, it may be the first time they have seen ‘themselves’ in storybooks.
We are also proud to partner with GoodMinds.com, an Indigenous, family-owned book supplier based out of Brantford, Ontario.

“Honestly, I was amazed at the amount of books that were written or illustrated by Indigenous authors. Just the fact that this project brings awareness to Indigenous professionals in writing is a success. Then, the fact that our school was able to access these books and have copies – WOW. It’s incredible.”

“It was like Christmas. I opened all the boxes and looked at all the books one by one. Even after three weeks, I still head down to the library to have a look at them. The books go beyond the covers and pages, they are about people, ideas, cultures, stories, events, places, dreams and so much more. Thank you so much for this gift.”
