Community Food Access

Province: Nunavut

Community: Iqaluit, NU

The Community Meal program in Iqaluit has seen an unprecedented increase in demand over the past year as a result of compounding stressors, including overall inflation and rising food costs in a community where the price of food is already double the national average.

The community meals are balanced meals offered to the community free of charge Monday to Friday from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. The meals have variety and are made from scratch using the freshest, most nutritious ingredients possible, including produce and country food. With the help of True North Aid, over 500 people were able to be served with this program.
