2019 Year-End Campaign

SUPPORT OUR FINAL PROJECTS OF 2019

Help True North Aid fundraise for its final projects of 2019, representing our health, hope, education, self-determination and reconciliation stones of support. We cannot complete these without your support and passion. Please read our letter below.

In just a few short years, True North Aid has been able to serve and support more than 30 communities throughout northern Canada and our family of supporters are growing rapidly as individuals and families, businesses and schools from coast to coast reach out to us asking how to help.

Canada is on a path of reconciliation and as a result people have decided to put action to their words as they discover the truth about our past and we learn of the incredible discrepancy and inequality that many northern communities in Canada face each day.
Perhaps the most profound statement we hear from people is, “I didn’t know”.

For example, many Canadians do not know:

  • that 50% of Indigenous youth currently live in poverty.
  • that many indigenous people living in northern communities have to travel thousands of kilometres to obtain basic health services because urban centers are only reachable by air or winter roads.
  • that there are currently over 60 communities in Canada that have had long-term boil water advisories; or that the cost of food in the north is three times the national average.
  • or that youth in northern communities are often sent south to large, unfamiliar cities to attend high school by the age of 13 because there is no high school on reserve.

This is the reality and now you know.

This holiday season, True North Aid is hoping to change your “I Didn’t Know” to “Now I Know.”

Our intention is to educate more Canadians, like yourself, on various issues that northern communities face each and every day. We hope to provide you with enough information that will move you to action by contributing to our many projects and programs.

Your support allows us to provide practical, humanitarian aid in Indigenous communities in Canada and serve people like Thomas from Eabametoong First Nation, who suffers from chronic pain throughout his body. Recently, True North Aid was able to bring a professional orthotist to provide Thomas with custom braces and insoles to relieve his enduring pain. In addition, 40 community members received orthotic and foot care over the course of one week.

Help us support elementary schools with backpacks filled with school supplies as we were able to in Deer Lake First Nation; or help us provide clothing, medical supplies and food as we were able to do in Peawanuck First Nation, both communities in northern Ontario.

Help us help First Peoples first and support communities with much needed furniture, educational resources, winter clothes, food supply and more.

Now that you know, will you consider True North Aid as your charity of choice this holiday season and help support northern communities across Canada?
